Organizational Design

September 13th, 2012  / Author: versia

Messy desks and time spent looking for misplaced items cost corporate America$177 billion annually, according to a 2010 study by Brother’s International.  Another survey found 87% of workers admitting that they feel less productive when their space is cluttered.  An employee is only as efficient with accomplishing their tasks as is their ability to find the right tools or items at the right place and time.  The right design can help overcome this obstacle.

Today’s organizational success is based on team effectiveness, sustainability and proper work flow.  You cannot design a work environment without understanding the organizational structure, purpose and elements that work together.  Organizational effectiveness doesn’t mean utilizing more space, but it means using the physical space more wisely.  Although a neat and organized workspace is a challenge in today’s busy world, maintaining an organized and productive space is well worth the undertaking.

Design with these fundamental attributes and the result will be a highly efficient, effective and a happy workplace:

  • Maximize multi-directional communications
  • Maintain equilibrium between flexibility, privacy & collaboration
  • Accommodate multiple workers & their work styles
  • Encourage high employee engagement

Air Force Base Pharmacy

February 15th, 2012  / Author: versia

A major military base recently constructed a new Base Exchange with an on-site pharmacy where military personnel and their families are able to easily fulfill their prescription needs.

Pharmacy Workstations with Mobile Work Tables

The design objective was to create an efficient workspace that offered plenty of storage and “quick-pick” accessibility to prescriptions and supplies.   It was important to consider the pharmacist’s workflow requirements in order to provide the shelving, mobile workstations, and proper storage needed to optimize productivity.

Angled Gravity-Fed Work Drawers with Organizational Dividers

With workflow being vital, we provided mobile work tables giving the pharmacy ultimate flexibility in their day to day tasks.  Our Multi-Frame System integrates traditional wall-shelving with our Modular Millwork cabinets.  The adjustable shelving allows the pharmacists to keep all prescriptions and supplies in clear view and within ergonomic reach improving concentrated productivity.  Dimmable task lights were installed beneath each of the bottom shelves to ensure sufficient lighting on top of the entire work surface.  Each of the island workstation base cabinets were designed with angled gravity fed drawers to enhance workflow and reduce fatigue by keeping the prescription dispensers organized, visible and conveniently accessible.

Personal/Staff Lockers

In addition to the workstations, we provided two-tier personal lockers for the pharmacist’s and staff with hasp cam locks.  Four-post shelving along the exterior wall of the room will provide improved organizational storage of medication and supplies. A customized bottle dispenser was designed for the pharmacy with an acrylic front panel for easy picking and refilling of prescription containers.

Custom Bottle Dispenser for "Quick-Pick" Accessibility and Refilling

The in-depth field analysis, unmatched flexibility of the Modular Millwork product and successful installation ensure the military base has the pharmacy they need for their new Base Exchange.

Dare to be unique and different!

School of Visual Arts, Manhattan, NY

This famous clay modeling studio had several challenges. All the millwork and furniture needed to fit in this small footprint and the need to reconfigure for multiple uses and product sustainability were key requirements. Our versatile Modular Millwork product was able to provide the perfect solution and solve all the challenges while maintaining a sleek, modern style the studio desired.

Modular Millwork provides unprecedented flexibility!

The tables feature lockable casters giving the ultimate flexibility to reconfigure the room for presentations, work groups or project display, and can be stored out of the way for an open environment. Each work table contains a pop-up power/data outlet and an under mounted stainless steel bin for clay modeling scraps. In addition to our sustainable materials and manufacturing process, the table tops have a bactericidal surface preventing the growth of 99.9% of germs and bacteria and all of the Modular Millwork products carry a lifetime warranty to promote one life-cycle.

Organizing Chaos

This space was extremely unproductive and inefficient.

With Versia’s expertise, we reworked the footprint, created organization from chaos, and the result is a highly productive, efficient and comfortable space to work in.

By utilizing our MoreSpace product line, we were able to create more work space on the surface and keep the work surface free from clutter.  Understanding workflow demands helps us to create a highly functional, ergonomical and operational environment.  MoreSpace accessories can include risers, monitor arms, task lighting, adjustable shelves, and electrical cord containment clips.

Our Modular Millwork Base Cabinets have a structural steel frame which makes the system truly modular for any reconfiguration needed in the future.  The steel frames come in seven powder-coated colors, and there are 19 standard laminate finishes.  Work surfaces are available in a variety of options from laminate, solid surface and resin, to stainless steel and bactericial surfaces.

Evidence-Based Design

February 1st, 2011  / Author: versia

Evidence-based design (EBD) is the process of basing decisions about the built environment on credible research to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Many recent studies have examined how the physical environment can influence well-being, promote healing, relieve patient pain and stress, and also reduce medical errors, infections and falls.

For many years, our health-care design industry has worked to achieve all of the above items in health-care environments. The goal has been to have every space feel harmonious, warm, to use color psychology to promote quick recovery time, to use materials that were warm to the touch and art work that promotes health, healing and recovery. This is a departure from the typical cold, sterile and institutional health-care environments. Now, with so many studies of infection control, the next step and the designers/architects job is to specify and use materials that reduce infections, which will complete the circle of EBD.

Versia has many products, materials and accessories to stop the spread of infections, to add flexibility to the staffs daily work flow and to ease the maintenance of our products. Check out our BACTERICIDAL Surfaces!  See what Jain Malkin has to say about EBD!

VERSIA strives to Relocate, Reconfigure, Reuse.  Do you grade your performance on products you’ve specified and how they hold up in their life cycle?  Be honest, is it an A or F? If you’re somewhere in the middle, it’s time to move to the head of the class.

A 100 bed hospital typically demos a quarter of a million dollars of traditional millwork per year due to inflexible casework.  All demolished millwork ends up in landfills due to its inability to be … Reconfigured, Relocated and Reused.
